Expanding the Coop de Ville.

With the addition of seven more chickens, the Coop de Ville "run" space in the bottom portion on dirt was not enough for all thirteen of them. And Hubby did not have enough time to construct the second part of our "two part mobile coop" design yet... so, we erected a temporary "run box" for them for now.

We acquired these heavy-duty welded wire mesh panels a while back and spent some time tying them together with steel ties to create an additional 96 sf of enclosed yard space. The panels are super heavy and hard to maneuver around, but we managed to make it work.

Another change we made to the coop was adjusting the original roosting boards and adding more of them to accommodate the additional chickens. Hubby the carpenter took care of business.

Moving the Coop de Ville.

We did move the coop this past week as a part of the whole "mobile chicken coop" idea that we are doing in order to fertilize the gardening areas with the chicken poo that falls onto the ground from the coop. Hubby hooked the coop up to the tractor and moved it to the other end of the raised beds while orientating it about 45 degrees so that the front door now faces the barn. New hay inside and out... and scraped all of the poo out of the coop makes for a nice clean home for our two-legged babies.
