Preparing the Soils.

I attended a planting/seeding/gardening class at the county Library back a couple of weeks ago... it was taught by the head "Gardener" at Mr. Cason's Vegetable Garden at Callaway Gardens. I have known David my whole life and he seemed glad I was in attendance. Needless to say, I was the youngest attendee in the room by 20+ years and most of the others were there to ask questions about their small raised bed garden, etc. I did walk away with some very good info on a few things and there was opportunity to ask questions of the "expert". One of the biggest things I took away from the class was that March is the month to prepare your soil in your garden before planting begins closer to Easter in April. So we have spent a couple of weeks now tilling the soils in our existing garden area from last year, in the pumpkin patch up in the front 40 and we even went ahead and did the first tilling of our newest planting area on the other side of the driveway from the raised beds!

Tilling the old garden area.... This is the one we have been putting chicken poop (a.k.a fertilizer) in all Winter long.

Tilled up the right side of the raised beds too since that is one of the areas the mobile chicken coop was placed over the Winter.

Some good looking soil as seen in the sunlight the next day after tilling it up!

Went ahead and tilled up the pumpkin patch area in the front 40 (except for the three rows of winter onions that are still deciding to grow or not)...

And then we laid out our corners of our newest planting area and tilled it up for the first time ever!

The view of the new planting area from the farm house.

Both garden areas.
